Why Google Business Profile matters for Plumbers
Emergency plumbing searches peak late evenings and weekends. Your GBP profile needs to show you're available, you answer the phone, and you've solved similar problems for real customers before. Reviews mentioning 'emergency', 'same day', or 'quick response' do a lot of heavy lifting here.
For planned plumbing work, bathroom installs, boiler replacements, kitchen plumbing, customers compare three or four options before calling. They want to see photos of your work, your service area, and proof that you complete jobs to a good standard.
Most plumber profiles we audit have a weak categories setup and no services listed beyond 'plumber'. Google can't rank you for 'bathroom fitter Wrexham' if you haven't told it you do that work.
Local Markers typically improves a plumber's profile by fixing their categories, building a full services list, adding a structured photo library, and getting a review collection strategy in place.
The right GBP categories for Plumbers
Choosing the right categories is one of the biggest ranking factors for Google Maps. Here's what we recommend.
Stick to 3-4 secondary categories. More than that can dilute your relevance signal.
Photo strategy for Plumbers
The right photos build trust before customers even call. Here's what to upload to your GBP.
Your van at a customer's property, confirms you're local and active.
Visible pipework photos, neat copper pipework in an airing cupboard or utility room. Customers use these to judge quality.
Bathroom installs, photograph the before, mid-install, and finished result.
Boiler installation, the finished boiler on the wall with neat pipework.
Emergency callout photos, burst pipe repair, isolation valves fitted.
Under-sink and utility connections, tidy pipework beneath a kitchen sink.
Getting reviews as a plumber
Reviews are the second biggest ranking factor for Google Maps. Here's how to build a consistent stream.
For emergency call-outs, ask at the door when you're leaving: 'Glad we got that sorted. If you get a chance, a Google review would really help. I'll send you the link now.' Then text it immediately.
For planned jobs, ask when you hand over the finished work.
Example review script for emergency call: 'Hi [name], really glad we could fix the [problem] quickly. A Google review helps me show up when people need urgent help. Here's the direct link: [link]'
Common GBP mistakes Plumbers make
We see these on almost every profile we audit.
Only adding 'Plumber' as a category and missing 'Drainage service' and 'Heating contractor'.
No business hours set, or hours set to 9–5 Mon, Fri when you actually take emergency calls evenings and weekends.
No photos of finished work, or only a van photo.
Forgetting to add Q&A responses.
Using a landline number only. Most emergency plumbing searches happen on mobile.
Not updating the profile after bad weather seasons.
